Best performance of the week.
Idolhead Ed: Girls
: Ramiele Boys: David A.
Idolista: Girls – Kady Malloy for the sheer beauty of her vocals. Boys – Jason Castro because he absolutely nailed the vibe of his song.
LindaK: Girls Ramiele by far Boys David Archuleta
Bellebook: Girls.Ramiele's "You Don't Have to Say You Loved Me." I got shivers up and down my spine when I heard her sing it! Boys: David A.
JLynn: Girls: I didn't watch, but going on vocals, Alaina was the most vocally consistent, though not the most exciting
Boys: David Cook, I think he's way cool, even with the weird hair
Worst performance;
Idolhead Ed: Girls: Amy Davis Boys: Garrett Haley
Idolista: Girls – Amy Davis by a mile. Boys – Garrett Haley
LindaK:Girls Amy; no one else was even close
boys Chickeize. Yuck.
Bellebook: Girl: Lee Cook. She was really weak on "Rescue Me." Although Amanda Overmyer was a close second. Boy: Chikieze Eze. His vocal was plain
bad!
JLynn: Girls: Amy Davis was THE worst!
Boys: Luke Menard was pretty pitiful!
Best dressed:
Idolhead Ed: Girl: Asia’h Epperson Boy: I wasn’t paying attention and won’t be the rest of the year
Idolista: Girls – Joanne Borgella. She looked lovely and graceful. Boys – dunno, but I’ll throw Luke Menard a vote for sheer hotness.
LindaK: Amanda….. just kidding. I don't have this taped but from memory I'll say Ramiele; I remember her being stylish and appropriate for her age.
boys: Luke. He can't sing but he looks great.
Bellebook: Overall, I think Joanne Borgella was the snazziest dresser. Alas, her singing was worse than her wardrobe.
JLynn: Girls: I thought Asia'h looked pretty snazzy!
Boys: I think I have a crush on David Cook....
Most disappointing performance:
Idolhead Ed: Girl: Kristy Lee Cook I’ll bet that won’t be the case next week. Boy: Luke Menard, not that I knew what to expect since we have never heard a word out of his mouth but I figured anyone that good looking that sings in an acapella group should have been better.
Idolista: Girls – I’m going to give all the flu victims a pass this week and settle on Joanne Borgella. Her Hollywood performances had given me some real hope. Boys – Chickeze Eze – Did anyone other than me want to hear him sing Barry White? lol
LindaK:Other than Amy, I'll say Amanda. I think she has a lot more in there than what we saw. I'm glad she gets another chance.
Luke. He has to get his voice to match his appearance, if possible.
Bellebook: For the girls, it would be Kristy Lee Cook. I expected more. From the guys, I'd say Chikeze. I expected a little more from him since I knew more of him.
JLynn: Girls: Kady Malloy Boys: Garrett Haley
Most surprising performance:
Idolhead Ed: Girl: Without a second thought Alaina Whitaker Boy: Jason Castro Didn’t think he’d be any good since they wouldn’t let us hear him before.
Idolista: Girls – Alex Lushington. I loved what she did with her song to update it. Boys – Jason Cook. Unexpected song choice, unexpected interpretation.
LindaK:Alaina Whitaker!!!
Jason Castro. Love him.
Bellebook: For the girls, it would clearly be Alaina Whitaker. For the boys, it would be Jason Castro. I hadn't seen anything of him before this performance.
JLynn: Girls: Alaina, I was expecting her to suck the big one...
Boys: Jason Castro was refreshing, even if the end of his song was kinda bad...
Who didn’t leave that should have:
Idolhead Ed: Girl: No one Boys: Chikeze
Idolista: Girls – America got it right. Boys – Luke Menard got by on hotness only.
LindaK:Kristy; I'm just not a fan but she can try to change my mind next week.
Chikeize!!!
Bellebook: For the girls, probably Kady or Kristy. For the boys Chikeze should've gone.
JLynn: Girls: Kady and Kristy and Amanda and Alexandrea weren't any better than Joanne Boys: Luke and Jason Y should be counting their lucky stars!
Who left that shouldn’t have:
Idolhead Ed: Girls: No one Boys: Colton
Idolista: Girls – America got it right. Boys – It was a couple weeks too early for Colton.
LindaK:Girls: No one.
boys: Colton, because Chickieze should have left instead.
Bellebook: I would've liked to see Joanne have another shot from the girls. As for the guys, clearly Colton shouldn't have left.
JLynn: Girls: I think Joanne would have left before the 12 regardless, but I would have liked her to have another shot...
Boys: Colton TOTALLY deserved another week!
Best song choice:
Idolhead Ed: Girl: I’ll be alone on this but Carly with “Shadow of you Smile” Boy: Hands down Robbie Carrico with “One”
Idolista: Girls – “Happy Together” as it was written IS Brooke White. Boys – “Daydream” from Jason Castro. Look, voice, manner, attitude all fit perfectly.
LindaK:Alaina Whitaker; great choice to impress us.
David A: he nailed it.
Bellebook: Overall, I'd say "Piece of My Heart." I really
loved Asia'h's singing it, though not as much as Ramiele's song!
JLynn: Girls: Syesha's "Tobaccco Road"
Boys: David Cook: "happy together"
Worst song choice:
Idolhead Ed: Girl: Kristy Lee with “Rescue Me” although it may have been appropriate. Boy: Danny Noreiga’s “Jailhouse Rock” UGH! I hope to never hear that again.
Idolista: Girls – “Where the Boys Are” (Amy Davis). What WAS she thinking? Boys – Jason Yeager “Moon River”. What WAS he thinking?
LindaK:Amy sang would have been the worst song choice.
Chickeize: I just don't like him.
Bellebook: For the girls, "Baby, Please Don't Go". Horrible song choice for Amanda! For the guys, probably Danny's "Jailhouse Rock."
JLynn: Girls: Groovy Kind of Love-Kady
Boys: "Breaking up is hard to do" Garrett
Top 3 vocals:
Idolhead Ed: Ramiele, Carly, and Alaina.
Idolista: Putting performance aside, Ramiele, Alaina, and Kady. (Yup, all girls)
LindaK:David A; Ramiele; Carly.
Bellebook: Ramiele, Carly and David A., but Carly's performance wasn't as exciting as those of Asai'h or Syesha.
JLynn: Huh.....I'm gonna look at this as cleanest vocal, not necessarily most exciting...Alaina, Carly, and David A
Who should we look out for:
Idolhead Ed: Kady Malloy. I think she will end up being the force. At 18 she is surprisingly vocally mature.
Idolista: If Jason Castro can repeat his coup from this week, I’d watch for him. He could be a dark horse. He’s got that ‘it’ factor going for him and we have no idea what else he’s got in his bag of tricks.
LindaK: Alaina. If she does what she did this week, she will be a true contender. Also, Jason Castro; he just might sneak up on us and surprise us all with his talent.
Bellebook:Look out for Ramiele! She's already a force of nature!
JLynn: Look out for Asia'h and Syesha! And I refuse to explain! ha!
Your favorite contestant right now:
Idolhead Ed: Ramiele. Let’s see if she can keep it that way this Wednesday.
Idolista: JLynn’s right. No Elliott yet. But for overall best impression on the first week, I’d give it to Ramiele.
LindaK: Toss up between David A and Ramiele but I really like Jason C. too.
Bellebook: Ramiele Malubay! And I'm voting all-out for her!
JLynn: I love David Cook and Asia'h right now, but not in any permanent undying Elliott kind of way...
Who do you think will win:
Idolhead Ed: Carly
Idolista: Unless he totally blows it at some point, I think it’s David A’s competition to give away right now.
LindaK: I think it's a guy's turn to win so I'll go with David even though he's young. A teenage boy has never been this good, and he has time on his side as well as the 'it' factor and the talent.
Bellebook: Ramiele Malubay
JLynn: My guess would be with David A. right now.
Final Thoughts:
Idolhead Ed: For the first time ever we have enough great guys and girls to be assured of a great top 12 and an even greater touring top 10. And for the first time we got a great surprise performance from both the girls and guys. I’m so looking forward to the rest of the season.
Idolista: For everyone who bailed (or wanted to) on Idol last year because they found it boring, I think this group is going to make you believers again. These are a talented bunch. Even the worst aren’t bad, and the best are very good indeed. I’m anxious to hear the girls at full power, once everyone is healthy. As for the upcoming post-season tour….did anyone else notice how nicely the girls’ voices blended together on the group song?
LindaK: There's no question that this season is so much better than last year. I was bored writing last year but I feel the excitement returning and I can see myself getting emotionally invested in David and Ramiele. It's more fun when you are rooting for certain contestants, and I am looking forward to a good season!!
Bellebook: Once again, we find out that having little airtime doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to go home early if you can give a great performance! Jason Castro probably would've stuck around another week if he'd done a safe performance because of his dreadlocks, but he gave a very good performance and unless he fades to just good he should make the Top 12. Similarly, Alaina Whitaker gave the fifth-best performance of the girls, and I think she just ensured a ticket into the Top 12 as well as long as she doesn't fade to just "good." Meanwhile, I also learned that the boys and girls are pretty evenly matched, with a slight advantage to the girls as I think there were four excellent performances and one very good one from the girls, and two excellent performances and two very good ones from the guys. And finally, I learned that there are still contestants who'll argue with Simon when he slams them. Chikieze and Danny should never argue with Simon again, if they do they'll risk elimination. Luckily, the girls largely avoided that error. Right now I'm voting my heart out for Ramiele, and I hope she either remains consistently excellent or improves over time! Until next Tuesday!
JLynn: I'm excited because everyone else seems excited about this season and it HAS to be better than last year!
Looking at our assessments, it is not difficult to see that we all have, for the most part, different vibes from everyone. It's only the top 24 and we already have a divergent group of opinions on who is great, good and bad. That's a good thing I say. How 'bout you?
