Top 6: Which Idol Is About To Become A Memory?

#395 - 1--LindaK--Top 6: Which Idol Is About To Become A Memory?--2008-04-22 21:29:38

Andrew Lloyd Webber songs are tough...  some were able to pull them off and some clearly couldn't. - Top 6:

1. Syesha: One Rock N Roll Too Many
Syesha looks beautiful. I liked it. Randy said it was her element and she could be a huge Broadway star and it was her best performance. Paula said something very similar. Simon said it was very sexy and it was one of her strongest performances so far and she showed personality and she looked comfortable in this area.  Nice start to the show.

2. Jason: Memory
I still love Jason but not sure if I liked this performance. I sat here rooting for him to ‘get it’ the whole time. C’mon Jason fans, save him!  Randy said vocally it was a little of a train wreck because it was too much melody, too big of a song. Paula said it is usually sung by a female powerhouse but it was a wise choice and allowed him to put his spin on it. Simon said it was the longest two minutes and it came off like someone was forced by his parents to sing a song he didn’t want to sing, and it’s not his style of music. Wow.

3. Brooke: You Must Love Me
Those low notes bite.  She even knew it, and started over. This is becoming a habit with her. Does she think it gets her votes? This sucks. I credit my friend Terry for this great line, ‘Brooke may have just saved Jason’.  Thank you, Brooke!  Randy said it wasn’t great. Paula said you must never start and stop, and she said something complimentary after that but who cares. Simon said this is great about live tv; it was so dramatic, but it threw her because she was so tense. He said she will be very disappointed when she watches it back. Once again, Jason and his fans thank you, Brooke!

4. David A: Think Of Me
I felt so bad for David; it was obvious he was very conscious of keeping his eyes open while he was singing. Luckily for him, it didn’t detract from his performance, which was very good; not my favorite of his, but good. Did he forget the words?  Randy said David is what the show is about, he put his own personality into it, it was the bomb and he is the one to beat. Paula said it was perfect, he took a risk and turned it into a pop ballad. Simon said it was pleasant, one of his weakest performances over the shows, and not memorable, but will absolutely get him through to next week. I tend to agree.

5. Carly: Jesus Christ, Superstar
C’mon Carly; do what you are capable of! She covered the tattoo again; she is really trying and listening. I think she gave this one her all and hopefully the critiques will be better than they have been; she deserves it.  Randy said the bigger voices are doing better tonight. This may not have been her best performance but it was definitely good and he liked the outfit. Paula said at first she thought it may be too high a key but she loved what Carly did with the chorus. Simon said other than it getting shouty in the middle, it was one of his favorite performances of the night. LOL about her t-shirt saying ‘Simon loves me’ (this week). Very cute!

6. David C: Music Of the Night
Let’s go David with the pimp spot here. I recently saw Phantom on Broadway so this song is fresh in my mind. This is definitely different from anything David has done and we needed to see this side of him. He pulled it off in my opinion, very well! Wow!  He looked into the camera but didn’t do the Constantine thing which would have ruined it. Very very nice!  Randy said that was an amazing vocal performance! Paula said this proved that he is so well rounded as a performer and she thought it was fantastic. Simon said he made the most of the song, it was not the side of David he likes, but he made the most of it.

Roundup:
The lines between the strong and the weak are getting clearer and clearer. In my opinion, the performances tonight SHOULD make the groups go like this: top group: Davids and Carly, bottom group, Brooke, Jason and Syesha. Syesha did well but not as well as the others. David C was amazing and Carly was a close second. However, as we know all too well, the voting often doesn't go based on performances alone. What happens tomorrow is anyone's guess.... and I am looking forward to it!
