A Sharp, a Flat, & Top 3 Spoilers & Choices
#432 - 1--JLynne--A Sharp, a Flat, & Top 3 Spoilers & Choices--2008-05-11 16:55:23
#Of course, some of these are actual spoilers, as we know the judges choices and David Cook’s own choice now. If you don’t want to know their choices, STOP READING NOW. However, there’s still Syesha and David A’s choices, and the producers/Clive David’s choices. Thoughts?
- As usual, I’m a bit befuddled by the judges choices. Simon’s choices are usually surprisingly good, though at first they really throw you for a loop. Randy’s can really go either way. I feel like he always picks a painfully obvious song though. This year, we get one that has been done before on Idol, AND is really only exciting if you’re playing the piano at the same time. Can Syesha whip out an instrument this late in the game? Paula’s choice was a bit dreary for Elliott, and not that Billy Joel songs are dreary, but this one is very slow and subdued for an Idol final 3 performance. David Cook better hope the producers pick a rocking song for him, because between Simon’s choice and his choice, there is potential for a snooze fest.
SPOILER ALERT:
Okay, here’s what we know:
David Cook:
Judges Choice: Simon’s pick: “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face”
His Choice: Collective Soul’s “The World I Know”
Syesha Mercado:
Judges Choice: Randy’s Pick: “If I Aint Got You” (seriously?)
David Archuleta:
Judges Choice: Paula’s Pick: “And So it Goes”
I don’t think David Cook was supposed to reveal his song choice, but whatevs. That still leaves us room to guess 2 songs for the other two and 1 song for him.
David Cook:
So, what goes good with a Roberta Flack song and nineties rock? I know right, wtf David and wtf Simon? Simon said he wanted to choose David’s song to point him in a different direction. Apparently, that direction is for him to turn into a David A balladeer? I don’t understand. Let’s hope that David finds away to rock OUT the Roberta song, how funny would that be? Luckily, no one on the planet remembers Elizabeth LeTendre’s performance of this song. I had to look it up to see if anyone had even sung this on Idol before. You know who HAS done a version of this song? Leona Lewis! Guess, Simon is hoping David can do something similarly stunning. Expect a “Music of the Night” kind of vocal.
There are a ton of other covers of “Face.” We’ve got Johnny Cash’s, the Stereophonics, Celine Dion, George Michael, Elvis Presley, Lauryn Hill…….
PRODUCERS CHOICES: What will they pick?
I would love for them to pick:
*“With or Without You” or “In the Name of Love” by U2
* “Sweet Child o Mine” Guns n Roses
* “Whole Lotta Love” Led Zeppelin (Any Zeppelin really)
* “Livin’ on a Prayer” or “It’s My Life” Bon Jovi
* “When Doves Cry” Prince
* “Layla” Eric Clapton
If they go modern, I’d love the hear some “Fall Out Boy,” but I have a feeling that won’t happen. I’d love to hear him sing Gavin DeGraw too…..
There are two rumors around, one is that the producers picked “American Woman,” the other, “Hotel California.” Either of these could be good, but I’m not sure that these are accurate spoilers, especially “Hotel California.”
David Archuleta:
“And So it Goes” is one of Billy Joel’s most simple melodies, and possibly his slowest ballad. Unless, David plays this on the piano, it will be hauntingly beautiful at best. If he plays the piano, THEN he could have a magic moment. At the very least, he can rest easy in the fact that he will sing it EONS better than Carmen Rasmusen season 2!!!! (I’m sure that makes him feel better.)
PRODUCER’S CHOICE:
There haven’t been any spoiler leaks as of yet. What will they choose?
- “To Where You Are,” “You’re Still You,” or “You Raise Me Up” Josh Groban
- “Don’t Know Why” or “Come Away With Me” Norah Jones
- “Follow Through” or “We Belong Together” “Chariot” or “More than Anyone” Gavin DeGraw
- “You and I Both” Jason Mraz
- Something Michael Buble, (but not “Home” haha) which basically means a cover Buble has done. I’d love to hear “Moondance.” “Feelin’ Good” would bring us a different side of David, but I wonder if it’s too…uh….flirty? I don’t want to say sexy in relation to David A.
- Maybe, “One Voice” Billy Gilman?
HIS CHOICE:
Songs we’ve known he’s sung before:
* “A Thousand Miles” Vanessa Carlton
* “I’ll Be” Edwin McCain
* “I Could Not Ask For More”
* “For Good” Wicked
*I think he’d possibly pick Buble/John Mayer/Jason Mraz
We know he likes:
*Bryan Adams
*Celine Dion
*Elliott Yamin
*Robbie Williams
*Natasha Bedingfield
*Natalie Cole
*Stevie Wonder
I think “Song for You” would be a great choice for him. I’m fully expecting 3 ballads…
Syesha Mercado:
I have to say, that I think the Alicia Keys song is one of the most uninspired judge’s choices ever. We know Syesha is capable of bigger songs. With forgettable performances by both Vonzell Solomon and Kinnik Sky (wow I forgot she existed) we can hope that Syesha’s will be memorable, but at the end of the day, unless she can play it on the piano, it’s just not going to be impressive.
PRODUCER’S CHOICE:
As long as they don’t give her something ridiculous like “I Believe I Can Fly.” I still feel sorry for Kat!!!
- “Aint No Other Man,” “Voice Within,” “Hurt,” or “Fighter,” Christina Aguilera (any Christina really)
- An obvious, annoying Celine song like “All By Myself”
- If they pick “And I am Telling You” from Dreamgirls I would be very upset. However, if they picked “Listen” for her, that would be awesome!
- Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable” or “Crazy in Love”
HER CHOICE:
She has a tendency to pick obvious. Therefore, I wouldn’t be terribly shocked to hear ANOTHER Whitney song, or Etta James.
- “At Last” I’d much rather she didn’t, but I wouldn’t be surprised in the least.
- “Sweet Melodie” by Zap Mama, Syesha is a big fan of her
- I’d love to hear some India. Arie, but I don’t know if she’d give the rights.
- Aretha that hasn’t been overdone on Idol. “Do Right” or “Aint No Way,” or my suggestions from last week (I Never Loved a Man Like I Love You)
- “Don’t Let Go” En Vogue- would be a sexy choice
- I wouldn’t be shocked if we got “I’m Every Woman”
- If she sings “I Have Nothing” I’ll be furious. That’s been done every season since 2.
BEST CASE SCENARIO:
David Cook:
(1) “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face”
(2) Collective Soul’s “The World I Know”
(3) A very cool classic rock song! PLEASE! Led Zeppelin!
David Archuleta:
- Billy Joel’s “And So it Goes”
- Josh Groban “To Where You Are”
- Edwin McCain “I Could Not Ask For More”
Syesha Mercado:
- Alicia Keys “I Aint Got You”
- Christina Aguilera’s “Fighter”
- Beyonce’s “Listen”
I have a feeling I’m going to be very disappointed. However, last week I was SOOOO excited, so I knew it was going to suck because I had such high expectations. This week, I have no expectations, so hopefully someone will blow me away. What do you think they should sing?
