#442 - 1--JLynne--R47S: Top 12 Performances of ALL Top 12 Week: All Seasons--2008-05-18 13:10:18
#On to the top 12 weeks!!! These lists are very fun to do. If you missed out on the Top 24 Performances of the Semifinal weeks, check it out here:
Top 24 of ALL Semifinal Weeks - RANK FOR SEVEN SEASONS: TOP 12
It wasn’t hard to make this list, as the first week into the finals doesn’t usually bring us a whole lot of magic. Remember, season 1 isn’t included, because they only had 10 people, and cut two the first week. This is good news for some, who surely wouldn’t have made the list if Kelly and Tamyra had performances to contribute! However, there were a few great ones! Can you guess any?
Ah, the first weeks into the top 12. The questions on everyone’s mind are usually, who’s going to make the tour, who’s a frontrunner, and who’s going to leave first? Many of these performances were a little forgettable for me, but these are the best of the best. Again, season 1 is not included, due to the fact that they had a top 10 not 12. Let’s see who makes the cut!
THE LIST:
12. Brooke White: “Let it Be” (Season 7) If you read my article, you know I’m not a Brooke fan, but at the end of the day, this was a very memorable performance. It was raw, she was emotional, and it was a special moment.
Check it out:
Let it Be 11. Nadia Turner: “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me” (Season 4) Everyone raved about Ramiele, but this was a more heartfelt rendition of this ballad. Nadia had a great, unique tone, and this was before her star began to fade.
Check it out:
You Don't Have to Say You Love Me
10. Taylor Hicks: “Livin in the City”- (Season 5) This is a Taylor performance that I actually like. This is the perfect song for him, and except for a little section where he is inaudible, it is one of his most tolerable performances.
Check it out:
Livin' for the City
9. LaKisha Jones: “God Bless the Child” (Season 6) Other than starting a bit too low, this is one of the best week 12 performances. She does a lot of her own things with it, and she doesn’t over sing it.
Check it out:
God Bless the Child
8. Mandisa: “Don’t Worry Bout a Thing” (Season 5) Ryan removes her uncomfortable shoes, so that she can have a stress free performance. Like LaKisha, her lower register wasn’t my favorite. However, once she takes it up, it is a dang good performance and vocal!
Check it out:
Don't Worry Bout a Thing
7. Chris Daughtry: “Higher Ground” (Season 5) It wasn’t my personal Chris favorite, but he did rock the crap out of it, with intense lighting and everything. He took the Chile Peppers version and the Stevie version, and it ended up pretty exciting.
Check it out:
Higher Ground
6. Bo Bice: “Spinning Wheel”- (Season 4) This is when we first started hearing rocking songs on Idol, and it was really exciting. As Simon said, the big stage can make or break you and he always looked like he was just doing what he always does.
Check it out:
Spinning Wheel
5. Fantasia: “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” (Season 3) This is the kind of song that makes Fantasia’s tone sound so relevant. She also really balanced out the screaming with some amazing singing, unlike her most recent AI appearance this week. This is how this song was meant to be sung.
Check it out:
Signed, Sealed, Delivered
4. Carly Smithson: “Come Together” (Season 7) Steven Tyler isn’t shaking in his boots at being replaced as one of the best covers of all time, but Carly really rocked this one out. It was also the first time Simon really loved her song choice. AND it was the time he compared her to Kelly Clarkson, and we got the greatest screen cap of the scariest face ever made on camera, by Carly.
Check it out:
Come Together
3. David Cook: “Eleanor Rigby” (Season 7)We already knew that David was amazing from semi-final weeks, but this solidified him as the one to beat, AND I predicted this song choice as one of his best options, which always makes me happy. This was a sign of the amazing things to come, sort of like the prequel to “Always Be My Baby” and “Billy Jean.” Good things always come in threes. Well for David, good things come in like tens.
Check it out:
Eleanor Rigby
2. Diana DeGarmo: “Think” (Season 3) She makes this song sound so easy and effortless to sing, and yet it is one of the most difficult to sing. Yes, she was only 16 years old, that would be younger than David. A, and she could sing the stuffing out of anything. She’s only gotten better since Idol, if you can believe that….
Check it out:
Think
1. Clay Aiken: “Sugar Pie Honey Bunch” (Season 2) Clay proved he wasn’t only a balladeer, and could really make this oldie a goodie. Still one of the most memorable Clay performances for me! His voice simply soared!
Check it out:
Sugar Pie Honey Bunch
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
Ruben Studdard:
Baby I Need Your LovinElliott Yamin:
Knocks Me Off My FeetJordin Sparks:
If We Hold OnBlake Lewis:
You Keep Me Hanging On Remember, this was JUST out of top 12 week performances!!! Therefore, season 1 is not included.
BEST SEASON SO FAR:
Each article I’ll continue to tally, until we find out which season really had the most dynamite performances of all!
Season 1: 4 (Remains the same because didn’t have top 12)
Season 2: 3
Season 3: 5
Season 4: 6
Season 5: 9
Season 6: 2
Season 7: 7
So far season 5 is in the lead, but season 7 isn't far behind. What do you think?
