#447 - 1--LindaK--Finale: We Won't Let The Sun Go Down on Either of Them!--2008-05-20 21:26:18

I can’t believe that I am really psyched for this show tonight!!!
- The boxing theme was a little offbeat but I liked it. I also think the Davids were sincere in their respect for and liking of each other. I also want to reiterate that I think they both are already winners. Good luck to the Davids!
The first song was chosen by Clive Davis.
David C: I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For
Other than the dreaded ‘c’mon’, I liked it. A lot! David has perfected the art of looking into the camera without being Constantine-ish, which is great. Walking through the crowd was a good strategy too. Randy said it was a great way to start off the duel of 2007 (???) and it was hot. Paula said we have found what we’re looking for. Simon said at the top of the show he looked tense and emotional and taking that all together, it was phenomenal.
David A: Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me
I am not looking forward to this because this was one of my all time favorite Clay performances and I never thought anyone could ever match it. Ever! That said, I thought this was really, really good! What a pleasant surprise! Randy said it was one of the best performances of the whole season and David picked the right time to peak. Paula said she got chills and the sun is never going to go down on him. She said it was a beautiful stunning performance. David looks like he’s going to cry. Simon said he is going to be honest. Last week David was okay, but tonight’s was arguably the best he’s done so far, and round 1 goes to Archuleta taking everything into account.
The second song was chosen by the contestants from the contest entries.
David C: Dream Big
I didn't like this song, but David made the most of it and he looked really comfortable and natural singing it. Randy said the song was okay but he sang his face off and hit the notes. Paula said it was a great way to take a song we don’t know and something I didn't get. Simon thought it was a bit of a lightweight and it didn’t feel like a winning moment, but there is another song.
David A: In This Moment
Usually I don’t like these new song choices, and this is no exception. However, like the other David, this one picked a song that suited his voice and style well. Randy said he didn’t like that song either, but he could sing the phone book and it was hot. Paula said it was another heartfelt performance and he is on fire tonight. Simon said he loved the egotistical lyrics and he chose the better song and he won round 2 also.
The third song is contestant’s choice.
David C: The World I Know
David is crying, Paula is standing. Randy said he is showing people a lot of different sides of himself, and it was a very nice job. Paula loved it, and said he is standing in his truth (meaning what?) and she applauds him. Simon said David is one of the nicest, most sincere contestants they’ve had. He thought it was a beautiful song but wrong for him tonight because he should have sung Billie Jean. I guess he means he was missing the ‘wow’ factor tonight.
David A: Imagine
Just as nice as the first time and a good way to close the show. Randy said he is happy and proud it is the two Davids on stage and this one was so good tonight it is what the show is all about, finding the best singer who is right there. Paula said she is speechless as she was the first time and he was stunning tonight. Simon said this show is about finding a star and David came out tonight to win and what they have witnessed is a knockout.
Roundup:
Idol needs to have a two guy finale more often. I really enjoyed tonight’s show. As much as I like David Cook (and I like him a lot), I have to be honest and say that David A was better tonight. He seemed to have more spark, more umph, more intensity. Anyone who can make me enjoy a song that Clay aced gets major points. As Simon said, he came to win. And I think he will.
However, I don't think whoever 'loses' has anything to worry about. The Davids have different styles and different audiences, and there is room on the charts for both of them. I am confident that the sun is not going to set on either of these young men for a long, long time. I am looking forward to following both of their careers in the years to come. I haven't said that about both finalists in a long time.... maybe ever. I think these finalists deserved to be here, they both rock in different ways, and I wish we didn't have to choose an official 'winner' because they will both be winners in the long run!!!
