Either result would have been the right one.... both these guys are awesome! - Ryan tells us that there were 97 ½ million votes last night. That broke the record by over 23 million. One David got 56% of the vote, and one got 44%. That fits in with the DialIdol prediction. I admit I am totally expecting David C to take the title because of that.
Mikayla Gordon is with David Cook’s people in Missouri, and Matt Rogers is in Utah with the Archuleta crowd. I don't think Matt has ever been with the winner's group and I have a feeling tonight is no exception.
Our top 12 are back. It’s good to see most of them again, singing “Get Ready”. David C and David A have a duet and it was pretty good! The guru thing was kind of an interesting way to pump Mike Myers new movie but Mike showed up so it’s all good.
Syesha was next to entertain us with ‘Waiting for You’. Is that Seal? Cool!!! Then Jason….. Hallelujah, my favorite! I liked it even better this time than the first time. Go Jason!
Then my other favorite; a Ford commercial. Immediately following that is the presentation of the cars, Ford Escape Hybrids for the Davids. Wooooooo!
The top 6 girls sing a medley of Donna Summer songs. I have really missed some of these girls! Donna sings too; these songs really bring back memories. Syesha gets another duet here.
The two contestants who left before their time sing ‘The Letter’. It’s Carly and Michael; they are amazing, even though they could have given them a better song!!!
Jimmy Kimmel did his shtick; he was funny. The Simon insult thing was cute.
The top 6 guys sing. Then the Davids sing ‘Baby You’re All That I Want’ (I think that’s the name of it). Bryan Adams sings too.
David C sings ‘Sharp Dressed Man’ with ZZ Top. Brooke sings with Graham Nash. The Jonas Brothers are here too, okay, whatever. Then we have to sit through the bad auditions for the zillionth time. Renaldo Lapuz sings his famous “I Am Your Brother”; that was cute.
One Republic sings “Apologize” and David A joins him. I enjoyed that. Jordin sings; it was just aight for me. Gladys Knight is in the house singing ‘Midnight Train To Georgia’ and her backup singers/dancers (The Pips) are Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey Jr . I really liked this; it was very, very funny. Ben Stiller can't dance haha.
Carrie!!! She’s stunning as always and it’s great to see her here. She sings “Last Night”. The top 12 sing, and then we get George Michael!
The show’s almost over. Sigh. The judges all said both of these guys are going to do great, and I do agree with that. Simon apologized to David C; for last night...wow. That just confirms that David C is the winner. Maybe another teenage winner really isn't a great idea. And the winner of American Idol Season 7, by 12 million votes, is David…….. Cook.
So………Dial Idol was right. I guess I’m happy, I would have been okay either way. I feel a slight pang of disappointment right now. Maybe that’s just knowing the season is over.
I still believe there is room on the charts for two very different Davids. This is honestly the first finale where I liked both contestants and didn't have a clear favorite. Congratulations to them both, and I look forward to following their careers and meeting them on tour!
