A Sharp, a Flat, and Finally My Freakin’ Favorite Wins! Finale

#452 - 1--JLynne--A Sharp, a Flat, and Finally My Freakin’ Favorite Wins! Finale--2008-05-21 23:53:03

#As finales go, this one definitely had me most excited.  At first, I was just listening to clips on Rickey.org, until my delightful boyfriend picked me up and I got to watch it Tivoed.  Yay for delightful boyfriends!  Yay for delightful Davids!  Yay for LOTS of performances!
- *Mikalah and Matt: Hometowns- I don’t really miss them that much.

* “Get Ready” complete with SYTYCDancers
This was especially peppy and a nice way to start the night. I felt like all I could hear was Chikezie for some of it, but that certainly wasn’t a bad thing.

* “My Hero” The Davids
Just listening: Kinda messy in spots, but when they got the harmony together it was really great.  I loved David Cook’s falsetto parts.  It definitely sounded like David A. was backing David C up, but all in all, more interesting than the usual top 2 duet.

Watching: This was even better when you could see the fantabulous Davids! It was a hilarious ending with David C putting his arm on David A’s shoulder as they both looked off into the distance.

* Stupid Mike Meyers- Silly, silliness. It was actually pretty funny.  Haha, David A might make a boom boom in his pull up. Awe, I want Ryan to roll right off the stage, that would make my day.

* Syesha and Seal: “I Have Been Waiting”
Just listening: A lot of this was a bit too low for Syesha. Seal sounded pretty great, they didn’t sound awesome together, but it wasn’t awful.  I think they might have been attempting to harmonize near the end and it WAS really awful. All in all, it was generally weak.

Watching: I love Syesha, she looks so good and they look awesome singing together.  This was much more tolerable with visuals as well!

* Jason Castro: “Hallelujah”
Just listening: This is typical Jason, but his tone is especially special on this song.  I just said especially special, someone shoot me.  I don’t know why this kid insists on going into a shakey falsetto at the end, but yay Jason.

Watching: WHAT!?  No guitar!?  I actually missed Jason.  I really like a lot of these people.  Wow…I didn’t realize that.  He’s really getting into this.  His most heartfelt performance to date.

* Ford Commercial Highlights- I hadn’t seen any of the Ford videos, they look as ridiculous as every year.

* Top 12 girls sing Donna Summer hits
Just listening: They open with “She works hard for the money.”  I’m having a hard time telling who is singing to be totally honest.  It sounded really pitchy.  I think they were switching off, but it was not to my liking at all.  Then I got terrified, and realized it was Amanda Overmyer and not a 60 year old man.  This brought us into “Hot Stuff,” and Carly saved the day with some crazy belting and than lost it with a yucky last note.  Then Syesha comes in for some more off pitch singing.  I don’t think the girls can hear themselves right now, that is my best guess.  Donna Summer comes out, with a new single?  “Stamp your feet on the ground!”  It’s really catchy.  I like it.  “I aint going down!”  For being ancient, she sounds pretty damn good that Donna.  I hope she’s older than my gramma, cause otherwise my gramma is going to kill me for calling her ancient.

Donna then busts into “Last Dance,” which has sent Ryan Starr and Brenda Gethers straight home, while people like LaKisha managed to survive their last dance.  It sounds like Syesha busts in and she sounds awesome.  Thank goodness, after that mini disaster with Seal.  All in all, a pretty hopping medley.

Watching: Oooh, looking hot in red.  Ah, it was Brooke and Kristy Lee that started us off rough, that is not shocking. Amanda looks like she wants to kill all of us, every one.  Donna Summer doesn’t look like she can stomp the ground, but Ryan Seacrest sure can!  Look at him go, haha.  Damn, Syesha looks hot and sounds hot!

* Carly Smithson and Michael Johns “The Letter”
Just listening: Up-tempo and feisty, this is an interesting choice and really showcases both their strengths.  They’ve been singing all over the place together, maybe they’ll be a traveling duo.  Carly busts out insanely high harmony. This is pretty fun.  Carly’s belting a little more crazy than I like.  Listening to someone belt in that range that non-stop is just a little painful.  The ending is pretty cool though.

Watching: Carly looks hot, and her and Michael make a great pair. I feel like the producers are teasing us with what a different finale could have been like.  A Carly/Michael finale could have been interesting.

*Jimmy Kimmel: FUNNY.

* Top Guys sing Bryan Adams
Just Listening: “Summer of 69” has a much better start than the gals. Then Jason does a nice melody change where he again manages to sing only 3 notes.  He’s a vocal magician like that.  The Davids then bust out with “Heaven.”  It’s great for both of their tones, and I love this song.  The harmony part is a bit muddled, with David singing a third below.  Then Bryan Adams busts out, singing a new song?  I don’t know, I’ve never heard it ever.

Watching: Michael starts us off strong, David keeps it going, and then there’s Jason and yay Chikezie.  Michael is definitely carrying this song.  Heaven is a bit scary in parts, and I get kinda bored after that…..

*David Cook and ZZ Top “Sharp Dressed Man”
Just listening: I was too busy enjoying to type while listening.  This was great!

Watching: David looks like he is home up there.  He did the knee dance that my brother always does when he plays the guitar and it always makes me laugh.  YAY David!

* Graham Nash and Brooke White “Teach the Children Well”
Just listening: Awe, so far the harmony is sweet and on.  I love this song, and this is a sweet rendition.  Let’s see how many times I can say sweet.  Brooke’s voice is really perfect for this kind of song. Oooh, they mix it up on the second verse. Very sweet sweetness of sweet.

Watching: Brooke sounds really pretty on this song, and she looks really pretty in the blue dress.

* Jonas Brothers- Eh, I’m not a big fan of them, because I’m not 12 years old.

*Renaldo- Oh dear….he’s a cutie though…

*One Republic and David A.
Just listening: I love this song, and I am excited to hear David on it! Dude from One Republic, is not sounding that hot live. At all.  Falsetto is all over the place. Oooh, David sounds good.  Haha.  I think I might be a fan of both Davids.  I’m like, haha One Republic guy, our Davids are better! Man, there is a lot of attempted harmony tonight.  Geez, when people have to learn harmonies extremely quickly they are destined to VERY quickly fall apart live.

Watching: I had never seen this guy before, but one thing is for sure.  David A should have sang this instead of the Chris Brown song the other week.

*Jordin Sparks “One Step at a Time”
Just listening: Is this her new single?  I don’t like it that much.  Too peppy for me. I’m not sure this will get as good radio play as her first two singles.  Then again, I thought “Tattoo” was an abominable song, but it grew on me, and now I listen to it whenever it’s on the radio.  Her voice sounds great, especially since there were all those rumors of her never singing again or whatever. Man her highest notes are a little sketchy.  She needs to stop going for E’s.

Watching: I’m not a big fan of the dress, or the song.  But Jordin is so cute and she is always so exuberant.

*Robert, Jack, and Ben- HILARIOUS

*Carrie Underwood “Last Name”
She looked great, she sounded great, and she held out that note at the end and I got very excited.  Yay Carrie!  She is such a superstar!!!

*George Michael Medley:
Kristy Lee just doesn’t sing that well.  Carly does nicely.  And Syesha and Ramiele have some sweet harmony and than Amanda huffs into it.  The boys bust in, and Michael leads in again.  I think the producers are totally pimping Michael cause they are gonna sign him.  Yay, Chikezie!  Jason Castro is really funny to watch dance.  Chikezie has a really great solo.

George comes out and sings the song Carrie did of his on Idol Gives Back.  And he sings it beautifully.

Thank you, Simon for apologizing to David Cook!  And Amen, who cares who wins, they both rock!

AND THE WINNER IS:
DAVID COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK!  WHAT WHAT!

Holy crap, I forgot that he was going to sing the winning song and not his choice.  So I guess his cd will definitely have two songs on it.  Any song is better with David Cook singing it, so while this is another despicable song, it’s at least better than Taylor Hicks singing it.

I have waited since season 1 to have a favorite of mine win!!!!!!! Kelly and now David!
