How well will this year’s Idols fair post- Idol. Idolhead predicts.

#458 - 1--ed--How well will this year’s Idols fair post- Idol. Idolhead predicts.--2008-06-08 22:47:19

#I have already posed how I think David Cook will do. I still stand by that assessment. Now let’s look at the rest. You may be surprised by some of my predictions.
- As I have stated as many others have, this season had most talent top to bottom than any other season. They may not have had as many characters but they had more talent. This list will also include some who did not make the top 12. Let me know if you agree or not.
I will start this list going from least successful to most, excluding David Cook.

13. Amanda Overmyer: Unfortunately for Amanda I don’t think she’ll be making any records anytime soon. She might have enough luck to play some bars but nursing will be in her future a lot sooner and longer than singing.

12. Chikezie: Chikezie will suffer more from a crowded field for his “genre”. Only one time did he impress me but impress me he did top 12 night. He may attempt a CD on his own but don’t look for any big-time labels, or small for that matter to come calling. Because of where he lives he won’t even be able to get any mall openings.

11. Alaina Whitaker: Because she is so young, I think she may have a chance at a singing career. She also has a look that will help. Alaina is the quintessential prototype of who should wait to enter the Idol fray. She was way too young and immature. Had she waited til she was 21-22 her Idol stay would have much, much longer.

10. Ramiele Malubay: Ramiele started out with such promise but quickly withered.  She can certainly sing and couldn’t be cuter. I don’t see her having much of a singing career but I believe she will be seen on TV a lot. Although multi platinum Cds aren't in her future, Ramy will be able to ride her Idol appearance into lifelong employment.

9. David Hernandez: David will have an uphill struggle but I think he will be able to make his living as a singer. It may be on a cruise ship, not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it will be a modest living doing what he wants. He may show up on the tube as well.

8. Syesha Mercado: Syesha will most certainly live the life of an Idol. She will certainly launch a very successful and long career on the big and small screen. As far as a singing career I believe it will be limited to the stage. Even if she does put out an album, it will not get much traction. She will also follow in the footsteps of a Cheryl Ladd or Cybil Shepherd having a dual career in acting and modeling. Still Syesha made the right choice trying out for Idol in the most talented season ever.

7. Jason Castro: I’m not too sure Jason will actually do as well as I’ve placed him but he does have a decent voice and looks that will take him to teen Idol status. He should be ble to ride that wave as long as he wants. If he can actually write some good stuff for his voice he will be the first of this 7 to actually have a recording career. Would I buy his CD? No. I might listen to it on Rhapsody.

6. Brooke White: The question surrounding Brooke’s possible success is whether America will actually want another Carly Simon or Carole King. It will also depend on how much she wants a singing career as opposed to motherhood. I do think she will record a CD. The fact she lasted til 4th on Idol is enough proof that a CD may have a chance at least at some moderate success. If Brooke or the songwriters on her CD can pull a Sara Bareilles, she could end up choosing the charts over children.

5. Michael Johns: In my list of Idols so far Michael is the first I think has a real chance at a music career and sooner than later. And depending on the type of CD he makes, he could be anywhere from a great success to another in the long line of long lost Idols. But Michael does have the charisma, looks, voice, and musicality to make him a success. He may end up fronting a band but there ain’t nothing wrong with that.

4. Carly Smithson: My favorite from season 7 and I still say she deserved to be a part of the top 3 and even top 2. Carly should be a great success and I believe that 19E will sign her. And without the conservative eyes of the Idol viewers upon her, she becomes the “Heart” of this generation. The tattoo that gave her so much grief will become her defining trademark. Mothers and fathers alike will be pushing for legislation to close down all tattoo parlors.  I think there is no doubt the sound of a CD from Carly. It may take a little time but if the powers that be are able to get one of her singles on the air as much as Jordin’s “No Air” , Carly will pick up a large group of fans far removed from Idol,  much as Chris Daughtry and Carrie Underwood were able to do. Carly will have a very successful singing and recording career. She is the first in this group I think will truly succeed.

3. Kady Malloy: Here’s one of my surprises. Even more so than Ramiele, Kady imploded like no one on Idol ever has before. She, like Alaina, should have waited at least 3 more years. I’m sure Kady has been pampered all her life like an all state football player in Texas. She has incredible vocal skills but did not and does not yet know what to do with them. She is very smart, vocally gifted and about a 10.5 on the awesome looking scale. She strikes me as someone who has “suffered” from always having the oooooo’s and aaahhhh’s all her life and not really having much criticism. How do I know this? I don’t really but it was not too hard to assess when watching her take criticism from the judges. I actually don’t fault her as much as well……society. God I hated writing that crap because I always rail against anyone who blames anyone but themselves for personal failures. But you too have to have known that perfect girl in high school.

This aside I believe Kady learned her first real life lesson on Idol: “Thing don’t and will never always go your way”. And thus lies my Kady caveat. Her success will come if she does find the right manager who will lay it on the line all the time and properly guide her. She has all the talent and looks to make it bigger than anyone else on this show. Worst case she should be very successful if she actually works hard and takes the proper advice. I truly believe Kady will be everywhere in a couple of years when everyone has forgotten she was ever on Idol. I just hope she doesn’t blow it again.

2. Kristy Lee Cook: Some of you…..well most of you are scratching your heads over my last surprise but hear me out. In the 7 seasons of Idol there have been exactly four “Country” singers. Without exception and even to my disbelief on one account, they have all been success. On two occasions 19 has signed them. Who are they, the uninitiated may ask. They are; Josh Gracin season 2, Carrie (Duh) Underwood season 4, Kellie Pickler season 5, and the head scratcher Bucky Covington season 5. Kellie and Carrie were signed by 19E. Last season we had not one Country yodeler.

Now I ask, is anyone more positioned to have mega success than the perfect of body and face and more magnificent of voice than 3 of the other aforementioned Country singers? Kristy got out of the gate slow but managed to hang around til 7th place. She may not have the range of Carrie but she is just as pretty and not as robotic on stage. And on recorded material she is as good as and better than some Country singers. Take this 1 minute plus listen to Kristy sing "Blue" .She is made for the Country music scene and is much more talented than Kellie Pickler. And I suspect there will be no boob jobs for Kristy.

1. David Archuleta: The wunderkind that was supposed to win it all will still win where it counts; a long and prosperous career in singing. In fact I believe this will be the first time since Clay/Ruben both winner and runner up will do well. But this time I think it will be for the long run. I don’t see either David getting thrown overboard by their respective labels for years to come.

I’ve only said this three times already but her I go again with the age thing. David should have waited at least 4 more years before jumping on the Idol train. Sure he will do well and sure he never saw the bottom 2/3. But just think how much more he could have given with those years of maturity. His person and his voice. Had he been a man not a boy in this competition, he most certainly would have been the greatest the show would ever find. Who knows what will happen now. Sure he will have a good career but just imagine what could have been. And it is quite possible David might not even reach hit true potential. He may very well end up as a Shawn Cassidy or a Leif Garrett. In case you don’t know who they are first off it proves my point. Instead of telling you who they were just Google them. You will understand the parallel.

It is also possible that David will be a gigantic success despite all the things I’ve stated. I still do believe this will be the most successful 1-2 punch Idol has ever landed. But I will always wonder how much more we could have had.

Well there you have it. My list of the success to come out of season 7. I am sure most of you will have differing opinions. I invite you comment or even write your own piece to counter mine. I’ll see if the girls will do one of their own as well. Only time will tell if I am off my rocker or on top of it.  My track record for this kind of thing is much better than my elimination picks. We’ll see if it continues or runs off into the gorge.

Is it Tuesday Yet?
