#463 - 1--JLynne--R47S: Top 8 Performances of Top 8 Weeks: All Seasons--2008-06-22 18:51:51

Season 2 and 6 don’t have any performances that make the cut during their top 8 week. So, who DID make the cut from the other seasons? Only 8 performances this week!
If you missed out:
Top 24 Performances from Semifinal Weeks
Top 12 Performances from Top 12 Weeks
Top 11 Performances from Top 11 Weeks
Top 10 Performances from Top 10 Weeks
Top 9 Performances from Top 9 Weeks - Rank for all Seasons:
Remember, this is out of each season’s week of 8 contestants. This season, when we were down to 8, it was inspirational songs. Season 5, it was Queen week, and season 3 it was movie song night. The ONLY performances up for these 8 slots, are those that were performed during each season’s week of 8.
Already, we’ve visited some of my favorite American Idol performances of all time. Looking at the performances week by week has actually surprised me. Who knew that Carrie’s “Alone,” wouldn’t take top slot for top 11 weeks? Jordin Sparks knew, because it was her “I Who Have Nothing” that pushed it to second place.
If you need to catch up:

THE LIST:
8. Jason Castro: “Over the Rainbow” (Season 7) Jason Castro! Again? I know, he’s making another appearance. Our humblest idol contestant ever, really did wrangle some memorable performances that were refreshing to the usual idol power note frenzy. This subtle, acoustic performance is one of them.
Check it out:
Somewhere Over the Rainbow
7. Paris Bennett: “The Show Must Go On” (Season 5) A bit over the top, yes, but this sixteen year old stole the night from many older, seasoned contestants, and showed up a VERY seasoned lady who took on the same song this season. Paris had the vocal chops and the performance skills, and I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of her soon.

Show Must Go On
6. Constantine Maroulis: “Bohemian Rhapsody” (Season 4) It wasn’t Queen night season 4, but it was birth year, and Constantine gave such a great performance of this song that they included him on the Queen tribute album! Two lists in a row, Constantine shows that he could really turn out a performance.
Check it out:
Bohemian Rhapsody
5. Jennifer Hudson: “I Have Nothing” (Season 3) We’ve heard this song a thousand times on this show, but Jennifer Hudson really sounded like she had the right to sing it.

I Have Nothing
4. Elliott Yamin: “Somebody to Love” (Season 5) Who knew this humble, quirky guy could take on one of the hardest songs in the entire Queen songbook, and manage to get all the great parts into 2 minutes and sing the heck out of them. That’s Elliott.

Somebody to Love
3. Latoya London: “Somewhere” (Season 3) She effortlessly takes this songs to new heights. I’ve never heard a version of this done better. She simply soars.
Check it out:
Somewhere
2. Kelly Clarkson: “Natural Woman” (Season 1) Ah, signature Kelly. This is like American Idol legend now. Her cute hat, the flawless vocals, the two octave jump, the funny guy at the end who gave her flowers….legend.
Check it out:
Natural Woman
1.Fantasia: “Summertime” (Season 3) Also, legend. Fantasia’s greatest performance of all, and she had never heard the song before!!! This is classy, innovative, magical, and show stopping. The only thing that could bump Kelly down to second.

Angels *BEST SEASON SO FAR:
Each article I’ll continue to tally, until we find out which season really had the most dynamite performances of all! Remember, season 1 doesn’t really get a fair chance, as they don’t have a contribution for Top 12 week, Top 11 week, or Top 9 week. Season 5 is still well in the lead.
Season 1: 9
Season 2: 6
Season 3: 14
Season 4: 11
Season 5: 16
Season 6: 5
Season 7: 13
